Based on a table of contents found amidst the author’s papers, this article chronicles the history and contents of the book planned by Andrea Zanzotto for Quaderni di traduzioni, the series started by Einaudi in the early Eighties and soon interrupted. Deeply interested in the problem as well as in the theory of translation, Zanzotto dealt with texts in many different languages, from such classics as Virgil to Hölderlin and Rimbaud, with a preference for 20th-century French poetry (Éluard, Michaux, Frénaud, Clancier) and a focus on Iberian languages and Rumanian too. Through other archival records, including his correspondence with Vittorio Sereni, this article provides a full picture of the poetic translations completed or simply outlined by Zanzotto with insatiable curiosity throughout his poetic career. A yet-unpublished translation of a poem by Géo Norge is provided in the Addendum.

L’articolo ricostruisce, sulla base di un indice ritrovato tra le carte dell’autore, la storia e il contenuto del libro progettato da Andrea Zanzotto per la serie di Quaderni di traduzioni, iniziata da Einaudi all’inizio degli anni ottanta e presto sospesa. Profondamente interessato, anche a livello teorico, al problema della traduzione, Zanzotto affrontò testi in diverse lingue, dai classici (come Virgilio) a Hölderlin e Rimbaud, con una particolare predilezione per la poesia francese del Novecento (Éluard, Michaux, Frénaud, Clancier) e un’attenzione anche alle lingue iberiche e al rumeno. Attraverso altri materiali d’archivio, come il carteggio con Vittorio Sereni, si compone il quadro delle versioni poetiche compiute o abbozzate da Zanzotto, con inesauribile curiosità, lungo tutto l’arco della sua carriera poetica. In appendice, la traduzione inedita di una poesia di Géo Norge.
