Núñez de Cáceres es el Padre de la Primera Independencia Dominicana. Fue posiblemente el intelectual más brillante de su generación. Él dio los primeros pasos en favor de la integración de América Latina y el Caribe. Inicialmente, en lo ideológico su proyecto era liberal moderado, pero secu- lar y anticlerical. Tras fracasar su proyecto emancipador, Núñez de Cáceres se trasladó a Venezuela. Posteriormente estuvo en México en 1831. Allí pasó del liberalismo ilustrado o moderado al liberalismo radical en el con- texto de la primera Reforma liberal de carácter radical, encabezada por Va- lentín Gómez Farías en 1833. Poco después, se convirtió en fervoroso defensor del sistema federal. Vivió sus últimos años desempeñando diver- sos encargos de los poderes del estado mexicano de Tamaulipas.

Núñez de Cáceres is considered the Father of the First Dominican Inde- pendence. He probably was the brightest man in his generation. He gave the first steps towards the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. At the very beginning, his mind was moderate, but encompassed secularization and anticlericalism. After the failure of his emancipation scheme, Núñez de Cáceres went to Venezuela. Afterwards, in 1831, he moved into Mexico. There, his thinNing evolved from illustrated or moderate into radical liberal- ism in the context Mexico’s first Reformation, led by Valentín Gómez Fa- rías in 1833. After that, he became a fervent defender of the Federal system. He lived his later years performing several different duties in the federal state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
