  Las primeras semanas de vida son críticas en el caballo. En este artículo nos centraremos en las opciones de tratamiento de los problemas ortopédicos de los potros durante los primeros meses de vida. Aquellos problemas que no se manifiestan clínicamente durante este periodo, no van a ser discutidos. La osificación de los huesos cuboidales puede variar y debe ser evaluada en potros prematuros e inmaduros. Igualmente, las deformaciones flexulares y angulares son problemas comunes en potros neonatos y deben ser evaluadas y tratadas rápidamente. Así mismo, los potros neonatos son susceptibles a procesos ortopédicos sépticos debido a un sistema inmunitario inmaduro y al particular riego sanguíneo de sus fisis; en estos casos, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento precoz es también de vital importancia.

  The first weeks of life are critical in the horse. In this article we will focus on the treatment options for orthopedic problems in foals during the first months of life. Those problems that do not manifest themselves clinically during this period will not be discussed. Likewise, flexular and angular deformations are common problems in neonatal foals and must be evaluated and treated quickly.
