Durante el año 1990 se cumplieron treinta años del ejercicio de la Planificación Física en Cuba como una actividad de competencia gubernamental. Tiempo durante el cual la planificación regional y el urbanismo han interpretado las principales políticas públicas sobre el desarrollo físico y económico cubano. Este artículo reseña los puntos de vista del Instituto de Planificación Física sobre el sistema de asentamientos, las estrategias urbanísticas, la cultura urbana y el diseño ambiental y la arquitectura, sus análisis y perspectivas.

The paper points out that 1990 will mark the thirtieth year of planning as a governmental responsibility in Cuba. During this period, City and Regional planning are seen to have given body to the major policies as to the physical and economic devolopment of the nation. The paper draws our attention to the points of view of the Physical Planning Institute as to settlement systems, city planning strategies, city culture, living space design and architecture, the analysing of these headings and the future forseen for them.
