    This study aims to investigate the privileged position that the childhood has occupied within the questions and concerns of the contemporary historian in Western universities, mainly in the Anglo-Saxon ones since nearly half a century. It also aims to draw attention to the state of this subject in relation to Moroccan historical research, by focusing on specific types of referential sources related to the history of the childhood during the medieval period, and to identify some of the cultural and social issues that are mentioned in them. Furthermore, the study provides remarks on the methodological problems concerning the available materials. All this is intended to contribute to the foundation of the History of Childhood in the Maghreb countries, respond to the possibilities and limits of this history, and push specialists in Maghreb history to revise their excessive reluctance often expressed towards research on the family in general, and on childhood in particular.

    La présente étude a pour but dʼexaminer la place privilégiée que lʼenfance a occupée dans les questions et les préoccupations de lʼhistorien contemporain dans les universités occidentales, notamment anglo-saxonnes, depuis près dʼun demi-siècle. En outre, cette tentative vise également à attirer lʼattention sur lʼétat général de ce sujet par rapport à la recherche historique marocaine, en se concentrant sur des types précis de sources référentielles relatifs à lʼhistoire de lʼenfance au Maroc de lʼépoque médiévale, tout en précisant certains faits culturels et sociologiques quʼils soulèvent et présenter des observations concernant les problèmes méthodologiques qui cernent sa matière. Tout ceci a pour but de contribuer au fondement d’une Histoire de lʼEnfance dans les pays du Maghreb et de répondre à la possibilité et aux limites de son enregistrement, et à un autre niveau, réaliser lʼambition de revoir le désistement que les spécialistes de lʼhistoire maghrébins témoignent à lʼégard de la recherche en matière de la famille en général et de lʼenfance en particulier.
