La vacunación infantil constituye la medida preventiva más eficaz de todos los tiempos. Por ello, a lo largo de los últimos años se ha invertido un gran esfuerzo en hacer posible que la inmunización llegue a todos los niños del mundo. Al mismo tiempo, han ido extendiéndose creencias sin base científica en contra de las vacunas. La negativa a la vacunación no es algo nuevo, se remonta a la introducción de la primera vacuna en el siglo xviii. Pero lo que hace unos años era anecdótico, hoy en día se extiende a través de los movimientos antivacunas, que siembran dudas acerca de la seguridad y la efectividad de las vacunas infantiles provocando la negativa de algunos padres a vacunar a sus hijos. Dicha negativa plantea un conflicto de valores entre el derecho de los padres a la crianza de sus hijos según sus creencias y el de justicia, al poner en riesgo la inmunidad del grupo1

Childhood vaccination is the most effective preventive measure of all time. For this reason, in recent years a great effort has been invested in making it possible for immunization to reach all the world’s children. At the same time, unscientific beliefs against vaccines have been spreading. The refusal to vaccinate is not something new, it dates back to the introduction of the first vaccine in the 18th century. But what was anecdotal a few years ago is now spreading through anti-vaccine movements, which raise doubts about the safety and effectiveness of childhood vaccines, causing some parents to refuse to vaccinate their children. Said refusal raises a conflict of values between the right of parents to raise their children according to their beliefs and that of justice, by jeopardizing the immunity of the group.
