  • Resumen
    • Painting architecture: the representation of tardogothic architecture in Valencian painting in the second half of the XV century During the period between 1370 and 1520, Valencia experimented a profound renovation of the architectural language echoed in the contemporaneous pictorial representations, through the description of the spaces and characteristic elements of an architectonic vocabulary. In that sense, the pictorial representation constitutes a source of documental information that provides an immediate image of the material environment at that time. It participates in the context and conception of the epoch it was painted, becoming an exceptional testimony of the past it illustrates.

In the pictorial representations, the architecture and landscape are essential components in the scene composition, for they establish the story in a specific place and context. Taking as a reference several altarpieces made by painters who worked on Valencian lands in the second half of the 15th century, we will introduce several scenes which report on the characteristics of the vernacular architectonic language and the perception of that architecture by the contemporaneous society.
