  • Resumen
    • The Granjas of the Hieronymite Order and the Architecture of Pleasure between the Medieval and Early Modern Periods The next pages will shed light on the functioning and topography of the Hieronymite granjas during the Late Medieval and Early Modern Pe- riods. This article will demonstrate that, instead of being envisaged as simple agricultural and farming estates or as places for spiritual retirement, the Hieronymite granjas were rural villas used for courtly entertainment. These structures were often conceived as luxurious buildings opened to the fields and in them we can see one the earliest and most advanced Castilian attempts to establish a dialogue with the surrounding landscape.

By rethinking these constructions, we will recover a lost page in the history of the Order of St Jerome in Spain, but we will also unveil a peculiar way of understanding the architecture of pleasure and its connection to the spiritual landscape of the time.
