  • Resumen
    • In the context of the development of collecting in Europe in the modern era, the galleries of portraits became an area that occupied a special place. From the 16th century, following the will of the King Philippe II, the Hapsburg dinasty succeeded in constituting some of the most important Renaissance galleries of the court, such as those of the El Pardo palace and of the Real Alcazar in Madrid. Following this model, noble families, like that of the Ducs de Medinaceli, formed their own collection of portraits, in an attempt to strengthen their bond to the cause of the Hapsburg monarchy. The present study examines this case and identifies certain of the rare works that have come down to us.
