    This work aims to reflect on the theme of silence in the “Seventh Book” (Седьмая книга) by Russian writer Anna Akhmátova - unfolding from this theme its religious and theological implications, the dialogue between the unspeakable and the invisible as well as the relationship that exists between silence and sa-credness. A popular writer, although censored for decades, Akhmátova played an important role in “keep alive” certain biblical and existential motives that were suppressed from “official art” during the Bolshevik regime. Thus, we propose, as a methodological parameter, to take seriously the density and relevance of her poetic work and therefore to conceive it as an expression of religious language. Through the analysis of the aesthetic environment of the Russian “Silver Age”, we discuss the historical and cultural echoes that culminated in the themes cov-ered in the “Seventh Book”. We also propose that the paradox of the “voice of silence” in religious tradition (and its relations with social and political silencing) is an important key to understanding silence in Anna Akhmátova’s poetry.

    Este trabalho visa refletir acerca do tema do silêncio no livro “Sétimo Livro” (Седьмая книга) da escritora russa Anna Akhmátova – desdobrando deste tema suas implicações religiosas e teológicas, o diálogo entre indizível e invisível bem como as relações que se estabelecem entre silêncio e o sagrado. Popular, ainda que censurada por décadas, Akhmátova foi importante na manutenção de certos motivos bíblicos e existenciais que foram suprimidos da “arte oficial” durante o regime bolchevique. Sendo assim, este artigo propõe, para fins de régua metodológica, levar a sério a densidade e relevância de sua obra poética e concebê-la também como expressão de linguagem religiosa. Por meio da análise do ambiente estético da “Era de Prata” russa, discutimos os ecos históricos e culturais que culminaram nas temáticas abordadas em “Sétimo Livro”. Propomos, ainda, que o paradoxo da “voz do silêncio” na tradição religiosa (e suas relações com o silenciamento social e político) é uma importante chave de leitura do silêncio na poesia de Anna Akhmátova.
