    Brazilian popular music brings together great artistic talents, including Chico Buarque. His songbook has been highly appreciated by the public for decades, added to the various national and international awards his work has been sin-ce granted. Given his vast cultural repertoire and taking into account the many possibilities of reading his musical productions, this article opts to deepen the understanding of “Pelas Tabelas”, one of his songs, but in the phenomenologi-cal-existential perspective, trying to explain and clarify some elements related to human and political dramas found in the use of expressions, lyrics, melody, and even in the technical composition of “Pelas Tabelas”. The space-time dimension observed in the plot indicates a reverse movement to what is occurring in that specific circumstance, marked by socio-political concerns and their profound effects on the national destiny. However, this collective reality functions as a ba-ckdrop for the individual internal dialogue; it is the object of the subtle apprehen-sion present in the text.     A música popular brasileira reúne grandes talentos artísticos, entre estes, Chico Buarque. A apreciação pública já o demonstra há tempos, somada aos vários prêmios nacionais e internacionais a ele concedidos. Diante do vasto repertório cultural e levando em consideração as possibilidades de leitura de suas produções musicais, opta-se neste artigo por aprofundar o entendimento de “Pelas Tabelas” na perspectiva fenomenológico-existencial, com o objetivo de explicitar alguns elementos relacionados aos dramas humanos, encontrados no uso de expressões e palavras e mesmo na composição técnica da letra e melodia. A dimensão espaço-temporal observada no enredo indica o movimento contrário ao que se dá naquela circunstância específica, marcada por inquietações sócio-políticas com profunda repercussão no destino da nação brasileira. Entretanto, a realidade coletiva figura como pano de fundo para o diálogo com a individual; esta, sim, objeto da sutil apreensão presente no texto. Este trabalho é fruto também da instigante participação no Grupo de Estudos sobre Literatura, Religião e Teologia – LERTE, da PUC/SP.
