Resumen de Arthur Saint-Léon en el Teatro Real de Madrid

En 2021 se cumple el bicentenario del nacimiento del bailarín, coreógrafo y violinista francés Arthur SaintLéon (1821-1870). Este artículo se centra en la breve, aunque intensa, y menos conocida temporada de 1851 durante la que trabajó en el Teatro Real de Madrid junto a su esposa, la célebre Fanny Cerrito. Saint-Léon llevó a escena en Madrid dos de sus ballets completos, creó una danza española –La sal andaluza– y participó en conciertos exclusivamente como violinista. Desde la teoría de la recepción, analizaremos los libretos madrileños de los ballets representados, los materiales hemerográficos y diferentes documentos conservados en archivos, que nos permitirán estudiar la presencia, repertorio y acogida que tuvieron en Madrid tanto sus coreografías como ambos bailarines.

Year 2021 marks the birth bicentennial of the French dancer, choreographer, and violinist Arthur Saint-Léon (1821-1870). This article focuses on the brief, though intense, and less known season of 1851 that he worked at the Madrid´s Royal Theatre with his wife, the famous Fanny Cerrito. Saint-Léon staged in Madrid two of his complete ballets, created a Spanish dance –La sal andaluza– and participated in concerts exclusively as a violinist. We will analyze, using the reception theory, the Madrid librettos of the ballets staged, the hemerographic materials and different documents kept in archives, which allow us to study the presence, repertoire, and reception that both, the choreographies, and the dancers had in Madrid.
