    The factory-town Rio Tinto - property of the Lundgen family launched in 1924 -witnessed the one of the most emblematic labor movements registered in Paraíba. This article – based on considerable empirical material – presents an extraordinary historical movement: the announcement of a total strike in Rio Tinto on the day of the 1964 civillian and military coup, in favor of President João Goulart. This resistance shutdown followed the guidance of the C.G.T., and its meanings show the workers’ level of organization against their employers – the Lundgren. The coup is, therefore, a milestone in Rio Tinto’s operative movement

    A cidade-fábrica Rio Tinto - propriedade da família Lundgren e inaugurada em 1924 - presenciou a atuação de um dos mais emblemáticos movimentos operários registrados na Paraíba. Este artigo – fundamentado em considerado material empírico - apresenta, para tanto, um momento histórico extraordinário: a decretação de uma greve geral em Rio Tinto no dia do golpe civil-militar de 1964, em favor do Presidente João Goulart. Esta paralisação de resistência, seguiu orientações da C.G.T, e seus significados obrigatoriamente se confundem com o nível de organização que os trabalhadores estavam implementando contra os seus patrões – os Lundgren. O golpe se constitui, destarte, um marco de coerção ao movimento operário de Rio Tinto. Palavras
