    El presente artículo tiene como objetivo describir el proceso transitado, hasta el momento,en eldiseño del Sistema Institucional de Gestión Documental y Archivo en la Universidad de Ciego de Ávila, Máximo Gómez Báez. Se expone la sistematización de los antecedentes teóricos consultados en el proceso.Se explica la problemática encontrada, se presenta la estrategia de trabajo definida para llegar al diseño del Sistema Institucional de Gestión Documental y Archivo en la Universidad de Ciego de Ávila, Máximo Gómez Báez y los retos para el trabajo futuro. Los métodosde sistematización teóricajunto al Analítico-sintético y al inductivo-deductivopermitieronpenetraren losfundamentos teóricos de la gestión documental y determinar sus esencias; para el diseño del Sistema de Gestión Documental y Archivo se utilizó el método sistémico estructural. El diseño de un Sistema Institucional de Gestión Documental y Archivo posibilitó sentar las bases organizativas parala correcta gestión de los fondos documentales generados por la Universidad en el ejercicio de sus funciones.

    The objective of this article is to describe the process that has been carried out so far in the design of the Institutional System of Document and Archive Management at the University of Ciego de Ávila, Máximo Gómez Báez. The systematization of the theoretical background consulted in the process is exposed. The problems encountered are explained, the work strategy defined to arrive at the design of the Institutional Document and Archive Management System at the University of Ciego de Ávila, Máximo Gómez Báez, and the challenges for future work are presented. The theoretical systematization methods together with the Analytical-synthetic and the inductive-deductive allowed to penetrate the theoretical foundations of document management and determine its essences; for the design of the Document and Archive Management System, the structural systemic method was used. The design of an Institutional Document and Archive Management System made it possible to lay the organizational foundations for the correct management of the documentary collections generated by the University in the exercise of its functions.
