La taifa naval y marítima de Denia y sus relaciones con otros estados ribereños del Mediterráneo

    Este artículo trata de la guerra naval y el comercio marítimo llevados a cabo por el reino de Denia, una de las primeras «taifas» nacidas en el siglo XI al descomponerse el califato omeya de Córdoba. Se analizan los hechos relatados por las fuentes para ofrecer datos acerca de la guerra en el mar y de aspectos que guardan estrecha relación con ella, como la situación política, los condicionantes estratégicos y las actividades económicas. Se ofrece finalmente la información disponible acerca de los barcos de guerra que operaron en ese siglo de intensa evolución, que se inicia bajo la amenaza vikinga y la supremacía naval del califato cordobés en el Mediterráneo occidental, y que finaliza con un reino cristiano normando establecido en Sicilia, el florecimiento de las repúblicas marítimas italianas y la empresa conjunta de la cristiandad que llamamos «primera cruzada».

    This issue deals with naval warfare and maritime trading carried on by the kingdom of Denia, one of the first taifa kingdoms born in the 11th century when the Caliphate of Cordoba broke down. The historical facts reported by the sources are analyzed to offer data about the war at sea and aspects that are closely related to it, such as the political situation, strategic conditions and economic activities. Finally, we offer the available information about the warships that operated in that century of intense evolution, which began under the Viking threat and the naval supremacy of the Cordovan caliphate in the western Mediterranean, and ended with a Norman Christian kingdom established in Sicily, the flourishing of the Italian maritime republics, and the joint venture of Christianity that we call the First Crusade.
