En este breve escrito presento una concepción de la responsabilidad civil entendida como una forma de responsabilidad interpersonal. En primer lugar, intento brindar una caracterización de la práctica, identificando el problema que aborda la responsabilidad civil, examinando en qué se diferencia de otras formas de responsabilidad y cuál es su modo típico de operar. En segundo lugar, me centro en su estructura, a fin de analizar las normas que son distintivas de la práctica, cómo están relacionadas entre sí y con otras normas que, sin ser distintivas, son necesarias para su funcionamiento.

In this brief essay I present a view of tort law as a form of interpersonal responsibility. First, I attempt to provide a characterization of the practice, identifying the problem addressed by tort law, explaining how it differs from other forms of liability and describing the way it typically works. Then, I focus on its structure, in order to analyze the norms that are distinctive of the practice and examine how they relate to each other and to other norms that, without being distinctive, are necessary for its operation.
