Resumen de Historia de la Casa Welsch, patrimonio del Centro Histórico de Lima

El presente trabajo trata de revalorar la importancia histórica y arquitectónica que tiene la Casa Welsch, tienda de origen alemán que se dedicó a la venta de joyas y relojes en Lima a mediados del siglo XIX. A través de la recopilación de imágenes inéditas e información, se intentará de conocer un poco más sobre su devenir desde el momento de su edificación hasta el proyecto de restauración que se ejecutó en 2012. Destaca el famoso reloj de fachada que durante muchos años estuvo al exterior del inmueble brindando la hora oficial a todas las personas que transitaban por el jirón de la Unión, el cual fue retirado de su sitio original a fines del siglo pasado. Debido a esto, el estudio resalta el valor histórico que posee, con la finalidad que este pueda ser reconocido y asimilado por la sociedad. Además, el fin de este trabajo también es contribuir a la difusión de este monumento como parte del Centro Histórico de Lima.

The present study consists of revaluing the historical and architectural importance of the Welsch House, a shop of German origin, dedicated to the sale of jewelry and watches in Lima in the mid-nineteenth century. Through the compilation of unpublished images and information, one will be able to learn more about its transformation from the time of its construction to the restoration project that was carried out in 2012. One of its best features is the famous front clock that for many years fronted the property and provided the official time to all people who passed through Jirón de la Union, the street where it was located; it was removed from original location at the end of the last century. For this reason, the study highlights its historical value, so that it may be recognized and assimilated by society. As well, the purpose of this work is to contribute to the diffusion of this monument as a part of the Historic Center of Lima.
