    El primer curso de Restauración de monu- mentos que se empezó a dictar regular- mente en el Perú, fue a sugerencia del Ar- quitecto Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi quien, a su retorno de Italia en 1960, no sólo fue portador del conocimiento más avan- zado en dicho campo disciplinar, sino el más interesado en difundirlo dentro del ambiente académico, razón por la cual, ingresó como docente en la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Nacio- nal de Ingeniería. Transcurridos 30 años deeseperiodofundacional,elcursofue asumido por José Correa Orbegoso quien años más tarde tuvo como asistente de cátedra al arquitecto José Hayakawa Ca- sas. El libro reúne una parte de las expe- riencias que el curso brindó (y continúa brindando) a sus estudiantes: el releva- miento de monumentos. Rilievo es el tér- mino italiano que designa la actividad y técnicas correspondientes, que permiten hacer el levantamiento arquitectónico de ejemplares del patrimonio edificado.

    The first course on Restoration of monuments that began to be taught regularly in Peru was at the suggestion of the Architect Víctor Pimentel Gurmendi who, upon his return from Italy in 1960, was not only the bearer of the most advanced knowledge He was in this disciplinary field, but the one most interested in disseminating it within the academic environment, which is why he joined the Faculty of Architecture of the National University of Engineering as a teacher. After 30 years of that founding period, the course was taken over by José Correa Orbegoso, who years later had the architect José Hayakawa Casas as a teaching assistant. The book brings together a part of the experiences that the course provided (and continues to provide) to its students: the survey of monuments. Rilievo is the Italian term that designates the corresponding activity and techniques, which allow the architectural survey of examples of the built heritage.
