    Este artículo explora posibles significados y usos del término crisis en los análisis antropológicos así como en otros estudios que busquen comprender las dinámicas culturales. Propondremos un uso restringido del término y criticaremos el abuso de la noción de crisis. Una crisis sólo podría ocurrir en un contexto y para considerar las crisis culturales explicaremos por qué proponemos entender ese “contexto” como marco y configuración. Una crisis cultural desestabiliza, en algún grado, las tensiones entre homogeneidad y heterogeneidad relativamente instituidas en cualquier espacio social. A la vez, una crisis puede amenazar el lenguaje mismo de una comunidad.

    This article explores possible meanings and uses of the term crisis in the anthropologi cal analysis and other studies that seek to understand cultural dynamics. We propose a restricted use of the term and criticize the abuse of the notion of crisis. A crisis could only happen in a context and to consider the cultural crises we propose an understanding of “context” as a frame and configuration. A cultural crisis destabilizes, to some degree, tensions between homogeneity and heterogeneity relatively instituted in any social space. At the same time, a crisis may threaten the very language of a community.
