El término Currículum y el quehacer del profesional en currículum es poco conocido en Guatemala. Esta situación ha mantenido al sistema educativo y a la educación en general en un nivel bajo y con pocas posibilidades de brindar, a través de la educación mejores oportunidades de desarrollo a la población. El papel que desempeña un currículista es de suma importancia porque recae bajo su responsabilidad coordinar la aplicación del desarrollo curricular, la evaluación constante de todos los procesos que conlleva la enseñanza-aprendizaje y promover los cambios en el currículum, de acuerdo a las necesidades de formación de las comunidades en donde se esté trabajando. Ingresar a la maestría en currículum representa un gran reto y una gran riqueza. El especialista en currículum tendrá el conocimiento teórico, que le permitirá visualizar de una manera general, la posibilidad de que la población que sea atendida con un nuevo diseño curricular que satisfaga sus necesidades en cuanto a mejorar su calidad de vida. Por esta razón es imperativo que la sociedad conozca el trabajo que realiza un curriculista y que se atienda a la necesidad de que en cada ambiente educativo debe estar presente un especialista en esta rama, lo que garantizará mejores resultados durante el proceso de enseñar y aprender.

The term curriculum and the professional tasks in curriculum are barely known in Guatemala. This situation has maintained the educational system and, in general, education in a very low level and with few possibilities to provide, through education, better opportunities of development to the population. The role a specialist in curriculum performs is highly important because it’s under his or her responsibility to coordinate the enforcement of curricular development, the constant evaluation of all the processes that involve the teaching-learning process, and to promote curriculum changes in accordance to the educational needs of the communities where it’s being worked on. Enrolling to a Curriculum Master represents a great challenge and it also means great enrichment. A specialist in curriculum will be able to have the theoretical knowledge that will allow him or her to visualize, in a general way, the possibility to attend the population with a new curricular design to satisfy their needs to improve their quality of living. Thus, it’s imperative that the society gets to know the function and work a curricularist does, so the necessity that in every educational environment a specialist in curriculum is needed, can be attended. This will guarantee much better results for the processes of teaching and learning.
