    Este trabajo analiza el itinerario global de Jean de Cointa, también conocido como João de Bolés. A través de su agencia política y de sus cruces culturales entre franceses y portugueses en las costas brasileñas, el objetivo de este trabajo es hacer una lectura descentrada de los modelos de incorporación de los territorios americanos a las monarquías. Para ello, se abordan los distintos modelos de colonización impulsados por Francia y Portugal a mediados del siglo XVI, los tipos de vínculos establecidos con sus súbditos y el papel que, en esta región, jugaron los misioneros jesuitas y los ministros calvinistas. AbstractThis paper examines the global itinerary of Jean de Cointa, also known as João de Bolés. Through the analysis of his political agency and cultural crossings among Portuguese and French colonizers in the the mid-16th century Brazilian coasts, the objective of this work is to study the differences between the paradigms of territorial consolidation promoted by France and Portugal. The types of ties established with their subjects and the role played by Jesuit missionaries and Calvinist ministers are also addressed.

    This paper examines the global itinerary of Jean de Cointa, also known as João de Bolés. The objective of this work is to trace his interpersonal links and his connections on a global scale as well as the reciprocal link between his individual experience and the territorial expansion of France and Portugal in Brazil in the mid-16th century. To analyze his political agency and his cultural crossings among Portuguese and French colonizers, Catholics and Calvinists, the representations that both his fellow contemporaries and recent historiographies have made of him are addressed.
