This historical reconstruction aims, as far as possible, to appear as a paradigm of analysis of material culture and the level of fortune of a master craftsman from Burgos in the final years of the 1700s. The quality of the annotations carried out by the scribe who certified his death, and prepared the post-mortem inventory that he distilled from it, makes it possible to recreate his idiosyncrasy, and that of his home. Furthermore, it assesses his comfort degree and sociability. He was one of the many craftsmen of a pre-industrial Castilian city during the 18th century. However, this indiscreet gaze at the domestic interiors of his household delves into the strategies and behaviours of a small unionized “businessman”, in whose workshop paintings and fabrics were billed.
