El coeficiente de reparto octanol/agua, P, constituye uno de los parámetros fisicoquímicos de mayor uso en química farmacéutica y medicinal, si bien se han utilizado otros solventes como el miristato de isopropilo y el dipelargonato de propilenoglicol como sistemas de distribución para modelación en QSAR. En este trabajo se presentan los aspectos termodinámicos del reparto de solutos entre fases líquidas inmiscibles y además se hace una revisión de los estudios adelantados sobre este tema con fármacos y otros compuestos de interés farmacéutico.
The octanol/water partition coefficient, P, still represents one of the most useful physicochemical parameters available in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, although other organic solvents like isopropyl miristate and propylene glycol dipelargonate have been used as distribution systems for QSAR studies. In this article, the thermodynamic aspects of transfer between organic solvents and aqueous media, and a brief review of the investigations in the pharmaceutical field about this topic are presented
