This study constitutes a brief journey through the infrastructures necessary to mould the landscape in keeping with man’s needs for the transfer and transport of merchandise, all this concentrating on the Extremadura of the 18th century. Our journey begins with a vision of the representation of the landscape using for the purpose some of the drawings preserved at the Historical National Archive. This territory was then criss-crossed with the roads which were gradually consolidated during the second half of the 18th century.
They were studded with a series of inns which also need to be mentioned and studied owing to their importance in the origin of this incipient communication network of the time.
