Resumen de Naturaleza, filosofía y literatura en Nuestra América. La ‘paganía congenital’ de Gabriela Mistral

La reflexión filosófica en Nuestra América ha sido de aparición relativamente reciente. Su surgimiento estuvo condicionado por las necesidades de la educación humanista y cristiana de la población indígena y mestiza, y por la exigencia de pensar modos de organización social adaptados a las realidades encontradas en América. Durante el siglo XIX exploradores y naturalistas europeos y criollos proyectan una nueva mirada acerca de la originalidad del ambiente natural nuestro-americano: geografía, geología, botánica, zoología y etnología. El auge de la literatura en la Nuestra-América del siglo XX, refleja una aguda conciencia de la riqueza y originalidad del entorno natural. La tesis general de este trabajo es que, de modo análogo a lo que ocurrió en la Grecia antigua, la autoconciencia del mundo natural que surge con la literatura nuestro-americana, se encuentra preñada de intuiciones filosóficas. Nuestro ejercicio intelectual consistió en intentar una primera explicitación de algunas de estas intuiciones en la obra en prosa de Gabriela Mistral.

Systematic philosophical reflection in “Our America” (Nuestra América) has been relatively recent in comparison with European developments. Its appearence was conditioned by the urges of humanistic and Christian education for indigenous and mestizo people, and by the need to conceive new modes of social organization, adapted to the circumstances that europeans found in America at their arrival. All along the 19th century, European and autochthonous naturalists and explorers encouraged an admired new look at the originality of the “our American” natural ambiance: geography, geology, botanic, zoology and ethnology. The rise of “Our American Literature” in the 20th century reflects an acute perception of the richness and originality of our natural ambiance. Our thesis is that similarly to what happened in Ancient Greece, the self-consciousness of the natural world that arises with early “our American” literature, is pregnant with philosophical intuitions. Our purpose in this work has been to make explicit some of these philosophical intuitions in the prose of Gabriela Mistral.
