Resumen de L᾽escola a Elx en temps de guerra, 1936-1939 (segona part)

During the Spanish Civil War Elx City Council, loyal to the Republic, had a left-wing government and a socialist mayor. It was during these years that the municipal council struggled to keep all children enrolled in school. Although the construction of schools for both primary and secondary education was promo-ted, these projects were never carried out. Throughout the development of school camps, the municipal council collaborated with the Ministry of Public Instruction to attend refugee children. Other initiatives were also accomplished: the crea-tion of the school for deaf-mutes, the promotion of the Municipal Academy of Drawing and Painting, adult education through the FUE (the Spanish University Federation), the extension of the public library in the Secondary School, etc. After the war ended, the Franco regime pushed away all the teachers that had been in-volved in the defence of the democratic legality. The preservation of some of the remaining architectural elements from that time is being reclaimed. The article is published in two parts.

L'Ajuntament d᾽Elx tingué un govern d᾽esquerres fidel a la República, i un alcalde socialista, mentre durà la Guerra Civil. Durant aquests anys, el Consell municipal s᾽esforçà a mantenir escolaritzada tota la població infantil, amb la qual cosa es crearen escoles i es projectaren edificis tant per a primera ensenyança com segona, obres que no arribaren a executar-se. Amb colònies escolars col·laborà amb el Ministeri d᾽Instrucció Pública en l᾽'atenció dels xiquets i xiquetes refugiats. S᾽ atengueren les demandes d᾽altres col·lectius: creació de l᾽'escola de sordomuts, impuls de l᾽Acadèmia Municipal de Dibuix i Pintura, educació d'adults a través de la FUE, ampliació de la biblioteca pública de l᾽'Institut, etc. Acabada la guerra, el règim franquista, com a mínim apartà de la sea escola, els docents que havien gosat implicar-se en la defensa de la legalitat democràtica. Queden alguns exemples arquitectònics de l᾽'època la conservaciódels quals es reivindica. L᾽'article es publica en dues parts.
