Esta contribución desarrolla la definición orteguiana de la técnica como producción de lo superfluo, tratando de responder a la pregunta de si es posible y razonable limitar el "progreso tecnológico".
This paper expandson Ortega's definition of technique as the production of the suplerfluous, in order to find out whether limiting our "technological progress" is both possible and sensible. It is shown that a) superfluity is particularly compatible with the social studies of technology of the last few decades, and b) it allows us to make sense of the different discourses trying to drive technology nowadays, from conservationism to economic liberalism. The idea of superfluity presented here is not the solution to our biggest economic and ecological problems, but helps us to duscuss them with greater clarity.
