  • Resumen
    • The Sierra de las Nieves aquifer (Málaga province, Southern Spain has two tectonic blocks that are divided by the Turquillas Fault. While the uplifted block is the reign of supercaves, the other block is the reign of karstic depressions. The down-lifted block is a paleo-polje with endorheic depressions that include dolines and uvalas. The main fractures and faults have had a strong control on the development of dolines and the drainaje network. Most likely the karst started by preferential dissolution of the network of fractures that created a polygonal karst of large scale. However the tectonic tilting of the block created an asymmetry in the development of the landforms that together with fluvial captures of the karst polygons give as result the present day paleo-polje that implies a mature, well developed karst system.
