No weights with inscriptions in Middle Persian are known for the Sasanian period (224-651 Christian era) or the following half-century. This changed with the Umayyad monetary reform (77-79 H / 697-699) which led to drastic changes in the coinage, not only to the iconography but also to the metrology. In the former Sasanian empire, a few bronze weights, inscribed in Arabic, were made. There were also monetiform weights in copper with inscriptions in Arabic on one side and Middle Persian on the other. Until now, two types of these Arab-Sasanian weights were known. Both were of the “weight of seven”. This article presents a third type of the “weight of eight”.
