    La realidad social está en continuo cambio, por ende, las necesidades sociales que en ella se suceden. El envejecimiento de la población implica la aparición de problemas de salud, como el Alzheimer. La enfermedad de Alzheimer es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa primaria caracterizada por una disminución progresiva de la función cognitiva, asociada a la edad. La intervención del/de la profesional de Trabajo Social neurológico con pacientes diagnosticados de enfermedad de Alzheimer debe tener en cuenta su realidad bio-psico-social presente y futura, con un abordaje psicosocial interrelacionado con el paciente y su familia. Este artículo presenta la intervención de la trabajadora social neurológica de un Hospital de Agudos con personas con Alzheimer desde el diagnóstico de la enfermedad, adaptando la intervención a las diferentes fases por las que transcurre la misma. Un acompañamiento social ajustado a los cambios y necesidades que la enfermedad inevitablemente va provocando en el/la paciente, contribuyendo al logro de su bienestar y calidad de vida

    The social reality is constantly changing, with it, the social needs that occur in it, we are witnessing an aging of the population that implies the appearance of health problems. Alzheimer’s disease is a primary neurodegenerative disease characterized by a progressive decrease in cognitive function, associated with age. The intervention of the neurological social work professional with patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease must take into account their present and future bio-psycho-social reality, with a psychosocial approach interrelated with the patient and their family. This article presents the intervention of the neurological social worker of an Acute Hospital with people with Alzheimer’s from the diagnosis of the disease, adapting the intervention to the different phases through which it passes. A social accompaniment adjusted to the changes and needs that the disease inevitably causes in the patient, contributing to the achievement of their well-being and quality of life.
