Asistimos a un escenario caracterizado por una mayor sensibilidad por el bienestar animal. Una de las cuestiones que ha sido objeto de debate es la protección a los animales en el momento del sacrificio o matanza y la colisión con las prescripciones alimenticias que tienen algunas comunidades religiosas. El Tribunal de Justicia de la Unión Europea ha tenido que resolver si los Estados Miembros pueden imponer el aturdimiento reversible también en la práctica de los ritos religiosos o si ello vulneraría la libertad religiosa.

We are witnessing a scenario characterized by a greater sensitivity to animal welfare. One of the issues that has been a subject of debate is the protection of animals at the time of slaughtering or killing process and the collision with the dietary prescriptions that some religious communities have. The Court of Justice of the European Union has had to decide whether Member States can impose reversible stunning also in the practice of religious rites or if it would violate the freedom of religion.
