    Hace más de dos siglos que la episiotomía comenzó a utilizarse y desde ese preciso instante ya había personas que se oponían a ella. Con el paso de los años, la tecnificación del parto la hizo fundamental y rutinaria, pero multitud de estudios científicos han evidenciado que su uso masivo no supone beneficio ni para la madre ni para el recién nacido. De hecho, en la última década han sido publicados trabajos que ponían de manifiesto cierta relación entre la episiotomía y la dispareunia, el dolor postparto y la incontinencia mixta.

    It has been more than two centuries since the episiotomy began to be used and from that moment there were already people who opposed it. Over the years, the modernization of childbirth has made it fundamental and routine, but many scientific studies have shown that its massive use does not benefit either the mother or the newborn. In fact, in the last decade, studies have been published that revealed a certain relationship between episiotomy and dyspareunia, postpartum pain and mixed incontinence.
