    La mononucleosis infecciosa es una enfermedad infecciosa producida frecuentemente por el virus de Epstein Barr (EBV), aunque también puede ser causada por el citomegalovirus, toxoplasma, hepatitis viral aguda, herpes virus humano 6 y reacción a drogas. Los principales síntomas son fiebre, fatiga extrema, faringitis, dolor de cabeza, malestar general, hígado o bazo inflamados y con menor frecuencia erupciones e ictericia. Es más habitual entre niños y adolescentes. El diagnóstico se fundamenta a partir de los signos, la sintomatología y el examen físico del paciente acompañado de diferentes pruebas de laboratorio.

    Infectious mononucleosis is an infectious disease frequently caused by the Epstein Barr virus (EBV), although it can also be caused by cytomegalovirus, toxoplasma, acute viral hepatitis, human herpesvirus 6 and drug reaction. The main symptoms are fever, extreme fatigue, pharyngitis, headache, malaise, swollen liver or spleen, and less frequently rashes and jaundice. It is more common among children and adolescents. The diagnosis is based on the signs, symptoms and physical examination of the patient accompanied by different laboratory tests.
