En su versión oficial, la ciencia moderna se promueve a sí misma como la actividad y el producto de una comunidad científica abocada a la búsqueda de un saber desin-teresado, éticamente neutral. Desde luego, ‘desinterés’ y ‘neutralidad’ no deben confundirse aquí con indiferencia ya que toda la actividad científica está guiada por un tono confiado y optimista con resonancias confusas de progreso y bienestar. Sin embargo, tras preguntarnos cómo se compatibiliza un saber puro, inmaculado y blanco con la oscuridad implícita en esta neutralidad ética, ya no sabemos muy bien en qué escenario posible ubicar el confiado optimismo científico.

In its official version, modern science promotes itself as the activity and the product of a scientific community committed to the search of non-interested, ethically neutral knowledge. Of course, ‘non-interest’ and ‘neutrality’ should not here be confused with indifference , inasmuch as all scientific activity is guided by a confident and optimistic tone with confusing resonances of progress and well-being. Nevertheless, following the question about how to reconcile pure, immaculate, white knowledge with the obscurity contained in this ethical neutrality, we do no longer very well known in which possible setting to place confident scientific optimism.
