    A partir de la independencia de México, los contratos que se establecieron con compañías británicas para la explotación de los minerales de plata y para erigir casas de moneda en las provincias mineras de México, implicaron que dichas negociaciones quedaran en manos de administradores de nacionalidad británica, la mayoría de ellos con larga experiencia en labores industriales y administrativas. Poco se ha estudiado el papel de estos administradores en el desempeño y éxito de estos negocios. Esta propuesta destacará, a través de documentación inédita, la labor de John Millington, quien pese a su breve paso por México para dirigir la Casa de Moneda de Guanajuato ejerció una importante influencia en la instalación y funcionamiento de dicho negocio y a la administración de las minas de Guanajuato, sentando precedentes para su éxito en las futuras décadas, así como por introducir elementos de carácter internacional al manejo y administración de las minas en México desde entonces.

    Few years after the Independence of Mexico from Spain various British mining companies were established in Mexico to work the mines and to erect minting houses in the main mining regions of Mexico. Those establishments provided that British managers would be in charge of those enterprises. Most of the managers were required to have substantial experience in administrative and industrial endeavours in Britain. There are very few studies that have tackled the role of these managers and their role and success of these business in Mexico. This paper will highlight through the use of the John Millington Collection, the role of this character as Commissioner of the Guanajuato Mint and the mines of the Anglo Mexican Mining Association. His papers have not been to this day, used to describe his activities in Mexico, but in this case will provide grounds to amply illustrate the impact of the achievements of British management in Mexican mines and mints despite his brief passage through Mexico. This paper will demonstrate that the role of managers such as John Millington was decisive for the future development of these enterprises and for introducing an international character to the mining business in Mexico.
