El presente artículo muestra la génesis, redacción y difusión del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, con el objetivo de que, en ese recorrido histórico, podamos llegar al centro del estudio y plantearnos la pregunta sobre su naturaleza. Se pretende, ante todo, advertir la necesidad no solo de ser fieles a Dios a la hora de transmitir el contenido de la fe, sino de atender, ahora más que nunca, al método, siendo fieles al hombre, y al hombre en su concreción, por el principio de inculturación que debe distinguir a los catecismos en sentido verdadero y propio.

This article shows the genesis, writing and dissemination of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The aim of this historical journey is that we can get to the centre of the study of the Catechism and ask ourselves the question about its nature. It is intended, above all, to warn about the need of being faithful to God not only when transmitting the content of faith, but also attending, now more than ever, to the method that is used. In this process it is essential to be faithful to the man, and to the man in his concretion, by the principle of enculturation that must distinguish catechisms in a true and proper sense.
