Resumen de El coste económico de la victimización y la seguridad ciudadana en España

Es importante estimar los costes derivados de la victimización, y a que resultarán de total utilidad para concienciar sobre la magnitud del problema, situarlo en las agendas a nivel nacional e internacional, identificar los aspectos a mejorar en la asignación de los recursos tanto públicos como privados, y diseñar políticas adecuadas que conduzcan a prevenir el delito que afecta a la víctima. Algunos costes se producen como resultado directo de la victimización, y otros son ocasionados de manera indirecta. Los gastos que asume el gobierno para prevenir delitos y el que invierte en seguridad ciudadana para evitar víctimas, así como el coste que los ciudadanos invierten para protegerse, junto con el dolor y el daño que asumen la víctima y sus familiares, determinan el coste económico y social de la victimización. A partir de los datos oficiales registrados por el Ministerio del Interior se realiza una aproximación a la victimización centrado en la violencia de género y en menores, sabiendo que estos datos están infravalorados, pues hay acciones que no se denuncian y, por tanto, no constan en los registros. Se analiza el coste estimado que suponen estos casos de victimización, y que serán útiles para los responsables de formulación de políticas públicas

It is important to estimate the costs of victimization, as they will be useful in raising awareness of the magnitude of the problem, placing it on national and international agendas, identifying areas for improvement in the allocation of both public and private resources, and designing appropriate policies that will lead to the prevention of crime affecting the victim. Some costs are incurred as a direct result of victimization, and others are incurred indirect- ly. The expenses that the government assumes to prevent crime and that which it invests in citizen security to avoid victims, as well as the cost that citizens invest to protect themsel- ves, together with the pain and harm that the victim and his or her family members assume, determine the economic and social cost of victimization. Based on the official data recorded by the Ministry of the Interior, an approximation is made of victimization focused on gender violence and minors, knowing that these data are underestimated, since there are actions that are not reported and, therefore, do not appear in the records. The estimated cost of these cases of victimization is analyzed, which will be useful for those responsible for formulating public policies.
