El drenaje cerrado de tórax es un sistema que conectado a un catéter torácico permite la evacuación de aire, sangre o líquido de la cavidad pleural. De esta manera, se facilita la reexpansión pulmonar y se restaura la presión negativa de la cavidad.
Los cuidados de enfermería son fundamentales durante todo el proceso de instauración de dichos drenajes.
Conocer los principios técnicos básicos para una correcta utilización permitirá un mantenimiento eficaz y eficiente del sistema de drenaje. Asimismo, se disminuirá el riesgo de complicaciones y se ofrecerá una asistencia de calidad al paciente

Closed chest drainage is a system connected to a thoracic catheter that allows the evacuation of air, blood or fluid from the pleural cavity. In this way, lung re-expansion is facilitated and the negative pressure of the cavity is restored.
Nursing care is essential during the whole process of setting up these drains. Knowing the basic technical principles for a correct use will allow an effective and efficient maintenance of the drainage system. Likewise, the risk of complications will be reduced and quality patient care will be offered.
