    La insuficiencia respiratoria aguda se relaciona con la incapacidad del sistema respiratorio para realizar un adecuado intercambio gaseoso que garantice las necesidades metabólicas del organismo. Es una de las enfermedades más frecuentes de nuestro sistema sanitario, y se asocia con una elevada morbilidad y mortalidad. Entre las patologías que cursan más frecuentemente con insuficiencia respiratoria se encuentran la EPOC, el asma y la neumonía.

    Son necesarios unos adecuados cuidados de enfermería que garanticen que el paciente reciba el tratamiento más adecuado, se encuentre en situación de confort, y se tenga en cuenta su esfera biopsicosocial.

    Acute respiratory failure is related to the inability of the respiratory system to carry out an adequate gas exchange that guarantees the metabolic needs of the organism. It is one of the most frequent diseases in our health system, and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Among the pathologies that occur most frequently with respiratory failure are COPD, asthma and pneumonia.

    Adequate nursing care is necessary to ensure that the patient receives the most appropriate treatment, is in a comfortable situation, and their biopsychosocial sphere is taken into account.
