Resumen de Familia, patrimonio y poder en la España Moderna: el regidor de Villanueva de los Infantes Francisco Fernández Buenache (1574-1636)

Durante los siglos XVI y XVII, numerosas familias, enriquecidas por el comercio y las prácticas especulativas, iniciaron un constante ascenso social que los llevó a alcanzar la nobleza y a vestir hábitos de ordenes militares. Las familiaturas del Santo Oficio, la compra de oficios y de privilegios de hidalguía y los litigios en las Chancillerías fueron las palancas de ese ascenso social. En este trabajo se estudia la trayectoria vital del fundador del linaje, el regidor Francisco Fernández Buenache, sus vínculos familiares, su política matrimonial, su patrimonio y las estrategias hereditarias, en un constante ascenso social que le llevaría a comprar la nobleza y sus descendientes a vestir hábitos y adquirir una posición preeminente en el concejo de la capital del Campo de Montiel.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, many families, enriched by trade and speculative practices, began a constant social ascent that led them to attain nobility and dress habits of military orders. The “familiaturas” of the Holy Office, the purchase of trades and patents of nobility and the litigation in the “Chancillerías” were the levers of that social ascent. This paper studies the life trajectory of the founder of the lineage, the alderman Francisco Fernández Buenache, his family ties, his marriage policy, his heritage and hereditary strategies, in a constant social ascent that would lead him to buy the nobility and his descendants to dress habits and acquire a pre-eminent position in the council of the town of Campo de Montiel.
