The postulator has a central role in the process for canonization. In this paper, we will distinguish three aspects of his role. First, he has to coordinate the promotion of the reputation of sanctity as well as of the graces and favors obtained through the intercession of the servant of God. Second, it is his task to gather and present to the competent ecclesial authority all the relevant material that accompanies the request for the initiation of the cause. Third, since it is likely that in the diocese that investigates the cause, in many cases, there will not be precedents from other processes of this kind, and the tribunal may lack experience in this matter, the postulator may be invited to offer his help at this diocesan level.

Il postulatore è una figura centrale nel processo delle cause di canonizzazione. Distinguiamo tre aspetti: 1. Deve coordinare la promozione della fama di santità e di grazie e favori ottenuti per intercessione del servo di Dio di cui si tratti. 2. È suo compito raccogliere e presentare al vescovo competente il materiale che accompagna la richiesta di iniziare una causa. 3. In molti casi, nella diocesi che istruisce la causa non ci saranno precedenti di altri processi, e il tribunale, mancante di esperienza, può aver bisogno dell’aiuto del postulatore.
