Pese a la importancia que Felipe V y sus esposas otorgaron a su propia imagen, durante casi la mitad de su reinado no lograron disponer de un retratista que los representara a su entera satisfacción. En este periodo fueron varios los artistas al servicio de la corona que asumieron esta función sin lograr la aprobación de los soberanos.El artículo se centra especialmente en dos de los más dotados, el francés Michel Ange Houasse y el italiano Andrea Procaccini, profundizado en los motivos por los que no lograron el éxito en esta tarea y proponiendo nuevas atribuciones a sus escasos catálogos.

Despite the importance that Philip V and his wives granted to their own image, for almost half of his reign they were unable to find a portrait painter to depict them to their entire satisfaction. In this period, there were several artists at the service of the crown who took on this assignment without attaining the approval of the monarchs.The article focuses especially on two of the most gifted, the French Michel-Ange Houasse and the Italian Andrea Procaccini, delving into the reasons why they did not succeed in this task and proposing new attributions to their scarce catalogs.
