La relación de Galdós con la vida y la obra de Cervantes comienza en la escuela y en sus primeras lecturas y no le abandonará hasta su muerte. En Cervantes, Galdós encontrará una guía tanto literaria (la ambición de construir la novela global) como personal (un modelo de actitud ética ante los avatares del momento). En este trabajo se analiza esta influencia en los primeros escritos de Galdós a su llegada a Madrid, en el periódico La Nación, así como el reflejo de su pasión cervantina en sus dos bibliotecas: la de Madrid y la de Santander.

Galdós’s relationship with the life and work of Cervantes begins at school and in his first readings and will not leave him until his death. In Cervantes, Galdós will find both a literary guide (the ambition to build the global novel) and a personal one (a model of ethical attitude to the ups and downs of the moment). This work analyzes this influence on Galdós’ first writings upon his arrival in Madrid, in the newspaper La Nación, as well as the reflection of his Cervantine passion in his two libraries: the one in Madrid and the one in Santander. An radiography of the young Galdós that surprises for its lucidity and for the depth of the Cervantine readings that he had carried out.
