Endotropía Asociada a la Edad: un diagnóstico sencillo de sencilla solución

    Objetivo: Analizar los resultados del tratamiento quirúrgico de esta entidad. Método: Estudio retrospectivo de los expedientes de 28 pacientes diagnosticados de ETAE entre 2013 y 2021. Se analizaron las características clínicas, intervalo entre la aparición de los síntomas y la consulta, y tipo y resultados del tratamiento. Resultados: La mediana de edad fue de 81 años (RQ 75-85) con un 53,6% de mujeres. El 46% del total fueron intervenidos, todos con reforzamiento de un recto lateral bajo anestesia local. En un 84,6% se eliminó la diplopía desde el día siguiente hasta al final del seguimiento, que fue de media 23±19,26 meses, operando un solo músculo, y en un 15% se consiguió con una segunda intervención. Conclusiones: La eliminación de la diplopía durante el seguimiento que se consigue en la práctica totalidad de estos pacientes con un reforzamiento de un solo recto lateral configuran al abordaje quirúrgico como una alternativa terapéutica de primera elección en la ETAE incluso en ángulos pequeños de desviación. Por ello, proponemos el reforzamiento del recto lateral como cirugía para los pacientes diagnosticados de esta enfermedad.

    Objective: To analyze the results of surgical treatment of this entity. Method: Retrospective study of the records of 28 patients diagnosed with ARDE between 2013 and 2021. Clinical characteristics, interval between symptoms onset and consultation, and type and results of treatment were analyzed.

    Results: The median age was 81 years (range 75-85) with 53.6% of women. 46% of the total were operated, all with reinforcement of a lateral rectus under local anesthesia. In 84.6% diplopia was eliminated from the next day until the end of follow-up, which was on average 23±19.26 months, operating a single muscle, and in 15% it was achieved with a second intervention. Conclusions:

    The elimination of the diplopia during follow-up that is achieved in almost all of these patients with a reinforcement of a single lateral rectus configure the surgical approach as a therapeutic alternative in ARDE of first choice even at small angles of deviation. Therefore, we encourage to offer this solution to all patients who come to our consultation with this annoying pathology.
