    Ya en el siglo XVIII, antes de que se produjera la Revolución Industrial, se habían emprendido en Andalucía dos iniciativas siderúrgicas de carácter estatal: la Real Fábrica de Hojalata de San Miguel de Júzcar, en la provincia de Málaga, y la Real Fábrica de Artillería de Jimena de la Frontera, en la provincia de Cádiz. En el año 1817, tan solamente cinco años después de la proclamación de la primera Constitución española y tres del fin de la Guerra de Independencia contra el invasor francés, un grupo de comerciantes andaluces decidió emprender una aventura empresarial novedosa en tierras andaluzas: la constitución de la Compañía de Minas de El Pedroso y Agregados, dedicada a la explotación de unas minas de hierro en el término municipal de El Pedroso, en la provincia de Sevilla, para abastecer una fábrica siderúrgica de su propiedad, emplazada en las inmediaciones de esas minas. Cuando se cumplen dos siglos de su fundación, con el presente trabajo se persigue corroborar que, efectivamente, la Compañía de Minas de El Pedroso y Agregados se constituyó en 1817, despejando así las dudas que todavía pudieran quedar acerca de esta fecha fundacional. De esta forma, se pretende reclamar para dicha compañía el honor de haber sido la primera empresa siderúrgica privada de la industrialización andaluza, por delante de las creadas años más tarde en la provincia malagueña, y rindiéndole así un merecido tributo a esta sociedad pionera en el bicentenario de su creación.

    Already in the 18 th century, before the Industrial Revolution took place, two iron state initiatives had been undertaken in Andalusia: the Royal Tin Factory of San Miguel de Juzcar, in the province of Malaga, and the Royal Artillery Factory of Jimena de la Frontera, in the province of Cadiz. In year 1817, only five years after the proclamation of the first Spanish Constitution and three of the end of the War of Independence against the French invader, a group of Andalusian merchants decided to undertake a new entrepreneurial adventure in Andalusia: the constitution of the Company of Mines of El Pedroso and Partners, which was engaged in the exploitation of iron ore mines in the municipality of El Pedroso, in the province of Seville, to supply a foundry owned by the said company, located in the neighborhood of those mines. Two centuries have passed since its foundation. This paper seeks to corroborate that, indeed, the Company of Mines of El Pedroso and Partners was constituted in 1817, thus clearing the doubts that could still remain about this founding date. In this way, the company claims to have the honor of being the first private iron company of Andalusian industrialization, ahead of those created years later in the province of Malaga, and thus giving a well-deserved tribute to this pioneering company in the bicentenary of its creation.
