    ntroducción: la enferma escolar comenzó a instaurarse en los colegios de Inglaterra en 1897, saltando el charco, hacia el continente americano pocos años después. Si bien es cierto que en la actualidad muchos países cuentan ya con esta figura, en España, su presencia en los centros educativos, es prácticamente nula a pesar de los beneficios que se obtendrían de su labor. Por lo que es fundamental mostrar la trayectoria y las funciones de esta profesión y describir los beneficios de su labor, para así reclamar su incorporación en los centros educativos españoles cuanto antes. Objetivo: conocer los beneficios de la presencia de la enfermera escolar en los centros educativos. Metodología: revisión bibliográfica descriptiva. Desarrollo: los beneficios observados han sido un mejor control de la patología crónica infantil, asistencia inmediata en patología aguda, una disminución del gasto de Estado, menor ansiedad en los padres, adquisición de hábitos de vida más saludables, menores tasas de obesidad y sobrepeso infantil y conocimiento sobre el uso de RCP de alumnos, profesores y padres, entre otros. Conclusiones: la enfermera escolar aporta numerosos beneficios a corto y largo plazo y ningún inconveniente.

    Introduction: the school nurse began to settle in England schools in 1897, jumping the ocean, to American continent a few years later. It is true that today many countries already have this figure, in Spain, their presence in schools, is virtually nil despite the benefits that would be obtained from their work. So it is essential to show the trajectory and functions of this profession and describe the benefits of their work, in order to claim their incorporation into Spanish educational centers as soon as possible. Objective: to know the benefits of the presence of the school nurse in the educational centers. Methodology: descriptive bibliographic review. Development: the benefits observed have been a better control of chronic childhood pathology, immediate assistance in acute pathology, a decrease in state spending, lower anxiety in parents, acquisition of healthier lifestyle habits, lower rates of obesity and childhood overweight and knowledge about the use of CPR by students, teachers and parents, among others. Conclusions: the school nurse brings numerous short and long term benefits and no inconveniences.
