El siglo xx trajo consigo el ascenso de diversos regímenes totalitarios. La toma del poder por parte de dichas dictaduras en Alemania, Austria y España conllevo el exilio de una gran parte de la población, entre la que se encontraba la inteligencia literaria. El establecimiento de las dictaduras acarreó por parte de las propias instituciones culturales del régimen, la expulsión de dicha inteligencia exiliada del proyecto cultural, haciendo de sus producciones literarias, «literaturas desterritonalizadas». En el exilio, los escritores fundaron diversas revistas desde las que mostraron su oposición al nazifascismo y se consideraron como los únicos representantes legítimos de Ia cultura de su país.

The twentieth century is known due to the rise of several totalitarian regimes. The seizure of power by these dictatorship in Germany, Austria and Spain caused the exile of a large part of the population, including literary Intelligentsia. The establishment of these dictatorships caused the expulsion of such exiled intelligence from the cultural project by the regime’s own cultural institutions, making their literary productions «deterritorialized literatures.» In exile, the writers founded several magazines from which they showed their opposition to the nazifascism and they were considered themselves like the unique legitimate representatives of the culture of their country.
