    Entre una ola de nacionalismos populistas de derecha, de izquierda y gobiernos tecnocráticos, la historia de la ‘Nación’ en medio de la complejidad que la globalización y la crisis de la democracia aportan al escenario de las humanidades y las ciencias sociales, resurge el interés en pleno siglo XXI por el estudio crítico de cómo cobró forma y aportó sentido y significado a la identidad de los pueblos ávidos por hacer valer su independencia recién lograda del poder europeo, en torno a la idea de ‘Nación’. El objetivo fundamental de este trabajo es reflexionar sobre los discursos más importantes que conformaron el inicio de la ‘Nación’. Lo anterior, atendiendo las fuentes y documentos historiográficos más importantes del siglo XIX, escritos por los autores que hoy día se consideran los ‘padres’ de las ‘historias nacionales’, como Lucas Alamán, Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, José Manuel Restrepo y Bartolomé Mitre.

    Between a wave of populist nationalisms of the right, of the left and technocratic governments, the history of the ‘Nation’ amid the complexity that globalization and the crisis of democracy bring to the scene of the huma-nities and social sciences, interest resurfaces in the XXI century for the critical study of how it took shape and contributed meaning and meaning to the identity of peoples eager to assert their newly achieved independen-ce from European power, around the idea of ‘Nation’. The fundamental objective of this work is to reflect on the most important speeches that shaped the beginning of the ‘Nation’ by taking into account the most important sources and historiographic documents of the 19th century, written by the authors who today are considered the ‘fathers’ of ‘national histories’, such as Lucas Alamán, Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, José Manuel Restrepo and Bartolomé Mitre.
