    El artículo desarrolla una comparación en torno a los planteamientos de la Rhetorica ad Herennium (s. I a.C.) y el Natyasastra (s. II-IV d.C.), los tratados más antiguos en las tradiciones retóricas latina e india en donde se brinda una lista de figuras retóricas, acerca de las figuras de pensamiento (sententiarum exortationes / arthalamkaras). Se estudian, a partir de la terminología en lengua original, las definiciones de los respectivos tratados y algunos ejemplos extraídos de textos literarios, nueve figuras: símil, indecisión, definición, ejemplo, entimema, dialogismo, hipotiposis, prosopopeya y antítesis. Como conclusión, se postula una clasificación de las figuras de pensamiento susceptible de ser aplicada a ambas tradiciones retóricas: 1. Figuras de comparación, 2. Figuras de causa, 3. Figuras de conjunción y 4. Figuras de exageración.

    [The paper draws a comparison between the approaches of the Rhetorica ad Herennium (1st century BC) and the Natyasastra (2nd-4th century AD), the oldest treatises in the Latin and Indian rhetorical traditions providing lists of figures of speech, regarding the figures of thought (sententiarum exortationes / arthalamkaras). From the terminology in the original language, the definitions found in the respective treatises, and some examples taken from literary texts, nine figures are studied: simile, indecision, definition, example, enthymeme, hypotyposis, prosopopoeia, and antithesis. In conclusion, a classification of the figures of speech that can be applied to both rhetorical traditions is presented: 1. Figures of comparison, 2. Figures of cause, 3. Figures of conjunction, and 4. Figures of exaggeration.
