Trujillo es el antiguo Turgalium romano, nombre de raíz celta. Es la denominación latina del topónimo correspondiente al primitivo castro indígena.
Los diferentes testimonios epigráficos y funerarios nos hacen pensar que la Turgalium prerromana se convirtió, durante la ocupación romana, en una población de suma importancia, muestra de ello son el elevado número de estelas funerarias romanas encontradas, algunas reaprovechadas por los musulmanes al construir el castillo y la cerca de murallas.

Trujillo is the ancient Roman Turgalium, name of Celtic root. It is the Latin name of the place-name corresponding to the primitive indigenous castro.
The different epigraphic and funerary testimonies make us think that the pre-Roman Turgalium became, during the Roman occupation, a population of great importance, an example of which are the high number of Roman funeral steles found, some reused by the Muslims when building the castle and the fence of walls.
